On November 29th, 2017, students from Mr. Kelly’s AP U.S. History class had the opportunity of embarking on a historical adventure in the mountain area. They first visited the city of Ahwahnee, California to see the Wassama Roundhouse, which is a replica of a Miwok/Yokut house used for tribal ceremonies.
Next, the students ventured out to the city of Mariposa and visited the Mariposa Courthouse and got a special and personal tour of the Mariposa Museum. Visiting these places helped the students learn even more about Native American cultures and life, as well as the California Gold Rush.
The students’ last stop was Yosemite National Park, where the students got a one-on-one Q&A about Native American life with a student by the name of Emily whom Mr. Kelly had previously taught at Mariposa High School. It was a very fast-paced and learning-filled experience for the students, and they had a great time and can’t wait to embark on their next historical adventure.
