How Do You Celebrate Thanksgiving?

Updated: May 20, 2020

Are you anxiously awaiting the day to stuff yourself with turkey, biscuits and gravy, and pumpkin pie? Well luckily, Thanksgiving is right around the corner! It’s fair to say that everyone is excited for the best dinner of the year, and the week off from school is an extra bonus. On November 23, families will celebrate this fun filled and meaningful holiday and enjoy all the food there is to offer.

Thanksgiving is often visioned as a big family sitting around a big table with tons of food in front of them. But everyone celebrates Thanksgiving differently and has varying family traditions. I decided to reach out to a couple of students to find out what their family does on this special day. Junior student here at Minarets, Hannah Flanagan, explained how her family gets three different Thanksgiving dinners! She says that her while she loves all of the Thanksgiving food, she really enjoys a good green bean casserole. Hannah is thankful for having the freedom to make her own choices. Another student, Jaimin Zuber, goes to his grandma’s house and he eats his favorite Macaroni Salad made by his mother. He explained how he is thankful for his family and having such a positive life. Junior, Novena Valentine, celebrates Thanksgiving with her family and enjoys the mashed potatoes. “I am very thankful to live in a first world country” Says Novena. Lastly, junior Adrian Mitchell stated that he joins his family for Thanksgiving dinner, his favorite Thanksgiving food item is the mash potatoes, and he is thankful that his family pushes him to do his best.

Overall, Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday that allows us to recognize all of the things we are thankful for, whether it be friends, family, or even the week off of school.
