Minarets: Home of Talented Students

Updated: May 20, 2020

It goes without saying that we have some very talented students at Minarets High School. I decided to go out and feature some of these students:

Angelique Ortega-Sampson is a freshman and has been singing and playing the Ukulele for six years now. She is incredibly passionate about music and explained that “I feel like I am doing something with myself and I don’t want to be held back from it.” With her passion and drive to be successful, she plans to pursue a career in singing.

Sophomore Elizabeth Almanza shares the similar passions as others, but expresses it very differently. For her, the passion for soccer and art are very expressive activites. She described, “When I’m on the field I can relieve all the stress that builds up in me and release it during the time playing.” While soccer keeps her very busy with training and conditioning, she loves to do art whenever she has time. When creating her art assignments she loves how creatively she can express her thoughts and can get lost in her imagination. Her passion, dedication, and creativity makes her stand out both on the field and in her art.

Shelby Pring is a junior and is a part of the Minarets Cheer Team, including the competitive cheer team. She joined the Minarets Cheer Team a year and a half ago and during this time the team has already won two competitions. Whether its during rallies, at sporting events, or in front of judges, she loves the thrill and excitement when performing and likes that it keeps her active with five to seven practices a week. While it keeps her very busy, she also actively plays five instruments.

Ever since senior Ryan McDougald was nine years-old, she has been riding horses. Her passion for horses continued to growth when she started showing her horses at ten years-old. Like many young girl, Ryan always dreamed of riding horses and now it has become a cornerstone in her life. When she gets older she hopes to continue riding and showing at events. To Ryan, it is very rewarding and keeps her actively doing what she loves to do.
