In case you missed it, Friday, December 22, was the second annual Community Day at Minarets High School. Its a school-wide event that is held on the last day before the Winter Break and consists of Minarets staff selecting activities and/or trips that will somehow benefit the community or school.

Miss Morgan, a social science teacher, organized time for students to decorate gift tags, gift bags, and cards for the presents being delivered to children admitted to Valley Children’s Hospital on Christmas Day. This activity gave all the students involved a sense of joy from making something with their own hands that will be given for someone else's happiness, specifically children who are in the hospital for the holidays.

The actual activity consisted of cutting out and decorating tags or decorating pre-cut tags and envelopes, as well as writing cards. Options for decorations include fun pop-out stickers, glitter writing, seasonal greetings, and much more in the realm of appropriate crafting freedom.

Last year, this activity was very popular with the 30 students who filled Miss Morgan's classroom, but this year over 50+ students filled room 303 to donate their time to Valley Children's Hospital.

One student remarked on her experience with this day saying she thinks it is “very generous and proactive of the school to organize an event that specifically helps the people around us every year”.

Patricia Regonini, a staff member from Children’s hospital explained how important it is for kids to feel loved during the holidays and helped monitor and conduct the crafting process while a Christmas movie played in the background and students shared in holiday joy.

By the end of the day, over 200 tags, cards, and gift bags were made and immediately given to a very appreciative Valley Children's Hospital.
