Students participated in creating floats to represent their clubs and groups at the football Homecoming game. Clubs prepared in advanced during and after school to build their floats and decorations for the football game which took place on October 12, 2018. This is Minaret’s first year creating floats for the dance and so it was decided to have a competition of who could have the best float to represent Minarets. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) received first place, FFA received second place, and the cheer team received third.
For the competition, each group choose a theme for their float and Junior Katelyn Hough says that FCA's goal was to represent all the sports on campus theme there for those who are involved with sports while each group had their own individual theme. A lot of the groups represented school’s spirit and were proud to show school colors.
When it comes to building the decorations, Junior Meghan Redman says that “Some of our stuff fell off and some of our balloons popped, we didn't have the right kind of tape- stuff like that. We just had to figure everything out since none of us had built floats before and where we wanted things to be”. She continues by saying how she would love to do it again next year, saying “I think it was a lot of fun and a good way to bring a new tradition to the school because we don't do a lot of big things for Homecoming. So I think it's a really fun idea to get everyone involved and have a little competition and just have fun”.
Katelyn says “I really like the idea of building floats and so I was really excited when I heard we were doing floats because most schools do a Homecoming where they do floats and gives us a chance to be original but also be like other schools” A lot of effort was put into the floats and students can’t wait until next year to do it again!
