Here’s Maverick!

Maverick the Mustang has become quite the contentious subject since his body disappeared over a year ago, on September 21, 2017. The mascot of Minarets used to appear at many events throughout the year.

As such, it was quite a big deal when its body was found during the second weekend of November by Sara Pillsbury- the mother of a Minarets student. It was found in a trash bag, stuffed in the back of a football concessions stand- and thus the great mystery was solved, the body was found, and the mascot was complete once again. Maverick will now be able to make a return after a year of hiatus, melding perfectly with this year at Minarets of increased school unity and spirit.

The role of a mascot in any setting is an important one; but the role of a school mascot is especially beneficial. Many people agree that, while a mascot may just seem like a silly costume, it is actually a profound symbol. A physical embodiment of a school’s individual spirit. It sets the precedent of school spirit and enthusiasm. Most importantly, however, through all these things, it brings the school together.

A mascot may not be necessary for a positive school environment; but Maverick’s return will certainly manifest as a boost and increase in mustang pride and unity.
