Relay For Life is a fundraising event associated with the American Cancer Society. Started in 1985 by Dr. Gordon "Gordy" Klatt, this man walked around a track for twenty-four hours straight in Tacoma, Washington to help raise money towards beating cancer. Walking and running over eighty-three miles in that span of time, he ended raising $27,000 alone. Ever since then, the tradition of Relay For Life was born and has spanned over volunteers in thousands of communities and twenty-seven different countries as teams come together and participate in running for a cure.

This year the Sierra Mountain Communities are joining forces for the annual Relay for Life, hosted at Minarets High School. The event will begin on March 29, 2019, at 6:00 PM and run on for a full twenty-one hours to 3:00 PM. Multiple teams have already signed up for this relay including Minarets Cheer Team, Minarets Volleyball, Minarets Key Club, Minarets CSF, and more. A total of $100,000 is the end goal of money wanting to be raised, however, so far $1,147 has been raised by our teams. More support and money can be raised to help the American Cancer Society fund research, patient care programs, and other areas that’ll help aid in the fight against cancer.

For more information on the event and how you can participate or help check out the website or contact any of our school's clubs named above and get involved!
