Get Ready. Get Set. Relay!

Updated: May 6, 2019

Relay for Life has been the talk of the school for the past few weeks especially when when 'Baby Shark' was our bell for three weeks. Thankfully, we were able to raise over the $500 goals for Relay for Life.

But in case you don't know, Relay for Life is a community-based fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. It is a team event where each team member takes turns walking around a track. Each event varies from six to twenty-four hours and each team is asked to have at least one member on the track at all time. This is to prove the point that “cancer never sleeps." Junior Maegan Redman is the captain of the cheer team for this event and she explained that “We relay to give people a voice and to support the fighters all around us. We relay in memory, in honor, and in love."

Our event will include numerous activities for people to participate in. On Friday, the events include pulled pork dinner provided by Minarets Youth Wrestling at 5pm, performance from Minarets Show band at 5pm, the Luminaria Ceremony at 7:30pm, and Lip Sync/Air Guitar Battle at 9pm. The next morning there will be a pancake breakfast at 7:30am, opening ceremony at 9am, and multiple activities including massage therapist, hair donation, grass volleyball, face painting, and more until 3pm.

Another part of the Relay are the luminarias, which Minarets California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is in charge of. These are not only a way to donate to the American Cancer Society but to honor those who have lost their battle or continue to fight. A luminaria is a small bag with a candle and sand inside and the bag is usually decorated with somebody's name. Even though the event is tomorrow, there is still time to order your luminarias. Contact Miss Morgan by email or stop by room 613 to get yours today!

There are many clubs and other extra curricular groups that have created teams to participate in the Relay for Life. Even if you have not joined one of these teams, you can still come out and show your support for a cure!
