Community Day with Smolijan

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

by Janine Alven, Kaydence Holmes, and Eve Romano

For Community Day, teachers Vaughan and Smolijan took a group of 54 students to Woodward Park to pick up trash, and then to River Park for lunch. Students are given about an hour and a half to pick up trash around the park. The students split into groups to be able to pick up trash over a majority of the park.

Some of the students that were in his class said, “I really enjoyed being in this class, it was really nice doing something for the community, although it was just picking up trash that goes along way."

Smolijan has been doing this for Community day for a couple years now. By doing this for Community Day it is not only affecting the community, but giving students the opportunity to spend time in nature. Overall Smoljan and Vaughan's Community Day was a success.
