Every year the Minarets Media program participates in the Slickrock Film Festival which is separated into different categories. Both middle schools and high schools in multiple counties to demonstrates creativity, teamwork, and how students can apply their skills learned to professional film-making.
This year’s festival was a huge success as our Media students competed to have their video win for their selected category. Over twenty films were submitted to the Slickrock Film Festival with a wide variety of students and innovative ideas. Students left in the morning shortly after school began and headed to the Fox Theater in Downtown Visalia in the Tulare District on March 10th, 2019. Students were able to get snacks and watch films made by both middle schools and high schools as they anticipated who would win the final categories.
Later they had the exclusive opportunity to ride in a limo to the theatre for the award ceremony. The awards celebration made students feel special by walking on a red carpet and a orchestra playing. The winners of each category were then announced and accepted their award. This year, Minarets was proud to bring home two awards from the ceremony!
Mandi Villanueva, Emma Lynch, and Austin Mitchell's films Anyone and What If won the Tobacco Control and Vaping Prevention PSA and Alcohol and Drug Prevention PSA categories!

Great job covering this event so quickly and EMBEDDING the winning videos for others to see! Nice hashtags too. Love how Minarets Press cover all social media too! This now marks the 7th year in a row that Minarets has taken home a Slickrock! Congratulations to the Media team!
