Life After High School

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

As students in high school, we are constantly told about how we need to “prepare for the future” and “get ready for the real world.” That never seems to really mean anything to anyone until we’re suddenly seniors. Before you know it, it’s time to apply to colleges and seriously think about the future. It’s a very sudden change and can be scary to think that next year we won’t simply be coming back to high school.

It can be extremely intimidating to think about these things. Keagen Mackey, graduate of the class of 2018, described, “After high school has been good so far. I’ve learned more about responsibility and that I have to learn how to push myself instead of having others do it for me. I’m still in early adulthood and looking forward for what’s to come.”

Amanda Loveland, a 2019 graduate, said “...it’s made me realize how much more freedom I have, but no one is here to hold your hand with everything. I’ve seen so much growth out of myself being in the real world.” Both students have said that they have grown with their departure from high school and that the future is looking bright.

Senior year can be scary as the countdown to the real world is drawing near. But from some past high school students, we can be reassured that even though life after high school might seem frightening, it will work out for us. There is nothing to be afraid of.
