Minarets High School Welcomes the Class of 2026

By Janine Alven

With the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year beginning on Aug. 11, 2022, not only did the classes of 2023, 2024, and 2025 return to continue their education at Minarets, but the freshman class of 2026 just began their first year of high school at Minarets.

For the first time since the class of 2022, there is hope that the class of 2026 will be able to have a “Normal” freshman at Minarets, as the class of 2023’s freshman year was cut short by quarantine, the class of 2024’s freshman was mostly online distant learning, and when it came to the class of 2025 being the first class to have a full freshman year there were still COVID policies in place, so this would be the first year in a while that the freshman should be able to have a “normal” freshman year.

When asked about how the school year is going so far freshman Bam Killian said that “It’s been going pretty well,” and so far thinks that Minarets is a great school.

As the class of 2025 begins their freshman year, most of them are in the process of taking their first high school classes. Though the freshman that are entering Minarets from another school in the Chawanakee district had the opportunity to take an elective class at Minarets when they were in eighth grade.

Another freshman Addysen Nielsen was one of those eighth graders to take an elective at minarets, Nielsen actually to a college Spanish class as her elective. So far Nielsen is a part of the girl's basketball team and is interested in joining Key Club and so other clubs as the school year continues. When asked about how the school year is going Nielsen said, “Good, it’s a lot of new people, the teachers are nice, and everyone has been very welcoming.”

Freshman Chance Cruger, who went to North Fork Elementary from kindergarten to eighth grade, also shared why he wanted to come to Minarets, “I came to Minarets so I can hang out with my friends. Also the leadership, I would love to join the link crew my sophomore year. I might play baseball for Minarets. I love baseball. I just don't love playing for the school.” Cruger is also yet to be involved in anything but has said that “I am planning on joining a key club this year or next year, also I want to join the link crew.”

Minarets can’t wait to see what the class of 2026 gets involved in and accomplishes with their time as a mustang.
