On Sunday, Feb. 2, the 54th annual Super Bowl took place at Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins in Florida. When 6:30 PM ET came around, fans from all over America were getting pumped for the intense showdown about to take place, between the AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs and the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round and the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Conference Championship to arrive at Hard Rock Stadium. The 49ers defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship to represent the NFC in the Superbowl.
Many great plays were made during the Superbowl Game, some of greatest were the many interceptions made by both San Francisco and Kansas City. Both teams quickly became tied at 10-10, and then it was a three point game at 20-17. Eventually, the Chiefs scored two touchdowns and came out of the game with a 31-20 victory. It was Kansas City’s first Super Bowl title in 50 years since they won the AFC-NFC Superbowl in 1969. It was the second Super Bowl loss for the 49ers since 2012. San Francisco has made huge changes between both Super Bowl appearances and it nearly paid off. During the Halftime Show, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performed in front of millions of fans. Lopez performed her famous song, “Waiting for Tonight” and showed off her moves. Shakira performed the song “Hips don’t lie”and was adored by many screaming fans.
Many people from Minarets High School watched the game on Sunday and Gym Coach Jay Smoljian stated, “Superbowl 54 was a great game, one of the best I’ve seen because I wanted the Chiefs to win and that’s exactly what happened.”
This was truly an exciting game to watch with friends and family, it was undoubtedly better than last years Superbowl, when the New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3. The Football season may be over now, but it’s never too early to starting thinking and preparing for next season!
