¡Mira! ¡Mira! Spanish and Dance Showcase

Updated: May 21, 2020

Hey all you crazy stangs! As you know, last Tuesday was showcase! If you were not able to attend, allow me to fill you in on what happened in Mrs. UP class! Here is what you missed:

Spanish One has been working very hard on their Mexican café menus and for Showcase Spanish teacher Karen Urrutia-Polnitz (UP) brought those menus to life by turning her classroom into a café for families to come and be served by their kids. The families had to order everything in Spanish and the students had to respond to them in Spanish. But that wasn’t all, Spanish One took the rehearsal days to practice learning and understanding Pesos so their family could pay for their food in using pesos!

While the families of Spanish One dined, Spanish Two students recited the poems that they have been working on for the last few weeks. Each poem was an original that was recited in Spanish. Each students went up a presented their poem to everyone in the room with designated time slots. Awesome job Spanish One and Two students! Thank you to all the parents who came to enjoy Mexican food and poems with us!

Along with Spanish, teacher Karen Urrutia-Polnitz did a showcase of the brand new dance class. Incredible, right? After the café closed, attendees walked down to 303 to watch our dancers perform. The dancers began with the classic “Thriller” dance that they performed at the ABC 30 event held just a few weeks ago. After the zombies finished Thriller, they jumped right into their fairy-themed ballet; they incorporated the two dances together by wearing half zombie make-up and half fairy make up. The earth dancers also wore a touch of green while water dancers wore a touch of blue along with blue and green incorporated into their make up. The performance ended with a solo performance by freshman Lily Suehiro to the song "Lovely" by billie Eilish. Awesome job dancers!

Special thanks to Spanish and dance teacher Urrutia-Polnitz for allowing her Spanish and dance students to showcase their work!
