On December 7th, seniors Vanessa Nelson and Cheyann Paschall hosted their SLE event in the Media Lounge here at Minarets. The event started at 5:00 pm where attendees had the luxury of playing video games with provided consoles or their own if they brought them. There were three televisions and several games for players to get their game on in teacher Juan Ortiz’s room.
At 7:00 pm the movie started and was projected in the media lounge. The Nightmare before Christmas was enjoyed by many who came. Tickets were sold in the media lounge for $5.00 prior to the event and sold for $7.00 at the door. A ticket came with a pizza, your choice of chips, and drink. Other foods were sold at the event including candy, tamales and burritos. The proceeds of the event are split in two between money for improvement and renovation of the media lounge, as well as O.U.R, also known as Operation Underground Railroad, that helps save children from sex trafficking.
When asked about their inspiration for this project, senior Vanessa Nelson stated, “Last year in April I went to a conference and guy in charge of the O.U.R spoke with me and I got moved by it. I also knew Ortiz wanted help with media lounge so I thought this would be a great idea.”
This was only the first event with another one scheduled in May.
