Gingerbread and Grandparents

Updated: May 21, 2020

Gingerbread houses are a staple of the holiday season and for the third year in a row a group of Mustangs students traveled down to Fresno to build gingerbread houses. But the students did not build them alone; they had help with the residents of Atria Fresno.

The grandparents told stories to the kids about Christmases of their past. Like when Laverne Wilson told her group about the time that, “...They (her kids) decided to prank him (her husband, their dad) by jumping off the sleigh. He (her husband) flew right into the creek.” This was just one of the hilarious stories Laverne told. All of the students heard stories like this from the grandparents. They talked with the grandparents while they enjoyed decorating the gingerbread houses hours.

At the end of the day the group took a picture after the picture and as the group was leaving there were murmurs from many of the grandparents that the kids had made their day.

This year's Community Day was a success and this activity made not only the grandparents day but also the Mustangs.
