Dual Enrollment- Pick Up Your College Credits Before College!

Updated: May 24, 2020

Dual Enrollment - Dual enrollment classes are offered at Minarets for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. If you plan to take some college classes in high school to pick up credits before you graduate, these classes may be for you. Each class is worth either 3 or 4 credits, is completely free, and a student can take up to 2 of these classes per semester. The classes operate through Clovis Community College and all are online classes except for Health. Below is some information about each class.

Business 10 (Fall Semester)-

If you are interested in Business or would like to pick up 3 elective credits for college, the Business 10 class might just be for you! This class is available during the fall semester of each year and is an online course through CCC. The professor uses Canvas, an online class website much like PowerSchool, where all assignments, quizzes, study guides, and exams are available. Textbooks for this course are also provided by the school for free.

General Psychology (Spring Semester)-

General Psychology is also an online course provided by CCC for dual enrollment here at Minarets. Whether you are interested in the psychology field or would like to pick up 3 credits before starting college, this class is great for both. This class is also great because all of the work is the same per week, there are no surprise assignments or tests. This class is available during the spring semester, and you will be provided with a textbook for free if enrolled.

Health (Spring Semester)-

Health is a very important dual enrollment class. In college, students are required to take a health course, so having the opportunity to take it in high school for free is definitely something to take advantage of. This class is not an online course, it is a face-to-face course that is taught by Minarets’ very own teacher Mrs. Karra Zamora. This class is worth 3 credits and any student that is 10th grade and up should definitely enroll in this course.

English 1A (Spring Semester)-

English 1A is the only course within dual enrollment that is worth 4 credits. It is also reserved for seniors only, as it is a very difficult course. This course is required in college as well, so it is a good idea to take it in the spring when it is available. It is suggested that if you plan to take English 1A, you complete a semester of AP Literature beforehand. If you have previously taken the AP English Language and Composition test and passed with a 3 or higher, your English 1A credits are already taken care of, and you do not need to complete this course in college. However, if you did not pass the exam or you are just wanting to get the class out of the way/ for free, it is highly considered that you complete this course while attending Minarets.
