A Legacy in the Making

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

On Friday May 24th, the football team headed off to an FCA team sports camp at Hume lake Christian Camp. Both Varsity and Junior Varsity were in attendance. The camp kicked off with a high ropes course where the team had to work together to make it through all of the different parts of the course. Junior Isaiah Gibson, a varsity team member, said that heights aren’t his thing, but his team was able to give him confidence to get through the course. For junior Brody Alquist, another varsity player, the best part of getting closer with his fellow teammates was exercising as a team. There are a lot of new members on the team and returning players got to see new players develop when interacting with the experienced players.

The camp did come with some challenges that weren’t exactly easy. For junior Trevor Trimble, a varsity player, he said that “some of the exercises were not easy, but the team had to work together and communicate and they were able to be successful. The team had to complete a blind obstacle course where they had to lead each other using only their voices.” This particular obstacle course is quite challenging when there are multiple voices talking all at once.

On Saturday, the team competed in 7-on-7 competitions. Lineman also had their own competition the same day. The team competed against Central Valley Christian, Bakersfield West, and Porterville.

Every morning there was an optional early morning bible study for all of the athletes. Junior Isaiah Gibson attended and said “It related football into the bible and how the players can apply that to football and real life. It was inspiring because the speakers were in the same shoes at one point.”

The team’s goal this year is to create a new reputation for the program and leave a legacy on the field. We all look forward to this upcoming football season and to seeing the dedication the boys have on the field.
