Cheer tryouts this year are being held very differently. Due to COVID-19, tryouts this year are online. Students recorded themselves performing a routine at home and submitted it to the coaches. To learn the routine that needed to be performed in the video, students had to participate in Zoom conference calls that ran from May 4 to May 8, 2020.
Junior Jamie Pope said, “Cheer is a great way to become involved with the school and make new friends if you are new and if you’d like to try something new!” and over 40 girls participated and submitted a video of the routine for tryouts. On Monday, May 11, the teams for JV or Varsity were announced on both Instagram and Facebook.
The next step for the cheer team is to decide on the captains. Junior Brooklyn Hadjis explained, “The captains for the upcoming 2020-2021 season have not been announced as the interview process for what position takes place after cheer tryout. We don’t know who the captains may be, however I’m positive that they will be amazing individuals who represent not only our cheer team, but Minarets High School well!”
Congratulations to everyone who made the teams!
