Cross Country Deeper Look

By: Charley Shipley

Our Minarets Mustangs have had two meets since the first one on August 26th. First, at Kingsburg HS on September 9th, and then a second meet in Fresno at Tesoro Viejo on September 16th. Both of these races were two miles. Our runners all did very good jobs and did their best at both of these meets. At Kingsburg our best time from our runner, Caitlyn Videgain, was 14:18.89, all of the runners at Minarets also got outstanding times for this specific run. Then, the race at Tesoro Viejo showed how dedicated our Mustangs are. All of our runners got under twenty minutes at this run. The runners on this particular day were facing up to 90-degree weather while doing this run, they all did their very best and we’re all so proud of them.

During practice for cross country our students usually try to run up to four miles and then on Wednesdays, they lift weights and run two miles. This shows how dedicated they are and how much commitment you have to have to do this sport and to even just try out for it. One of our runners, Michelle Schoonover said she joined because “ I have a lot of energy and I thought it would be fun. “ She is one of the many dedicated runners we are lucky to have at Minarets. Most of the runners usually join cross country to stay in shape for a different sport.

Another one of our students, Ryu Sotelo, was able to participate in the first race and got 14:30. This was one of the best times from Minarets. Ryu Sotelo was also able to tell me what he was excited about for this season, “I am excited about completing the season strongly. “ We know how good our runners are and we are positive that all of them will do well and finish this season strong.
