On August 20th, our Glissaders club, which includes members such as Mr. Vaughan and Nic Prieto met up at the school at 7:00 A.M. and departed on their backpacking trip to Twin Lakes. Their journey brought them wonderful sights, an opportunity to reconnect with nature, and amazing memories that are sure to last a lifetime.
The group did a great deal of activities while on their trip, such as climbing Kaiser Peak, fishing, exploring caves and enjoying the lake. Although the trip was only three days, a lot of tedious planning went in to it. “...Permits, lending out gear, planning out routes and getting approval from the school and District.” said Mr. Vaughan, when he was asked about what went into getting ready for the event.

The group had to make sure to bring the necessities such as food, water and shelter, which allowed them to have a great time around a campfire amidst the rocky environment.
The team returned on August 22nd around 1:00 P.M., rejuvenated and refreshed from the experience. The Glissaders club is meant to provide physical and adventurous experiences and opportunities for kids. “I had a teacher at Spring Valley that took us backpacking and skiing as field trips; I wanted to give students the same opportunity,” said Mr. Vaughan. It is safe to say that the Twin Lakes trip was a success, and a wonderful time for those involved. Keep up with the Glissaders Club to find out what exciting experiences YOU could be a part of!
