Faculty of The Week: Coach Lucas – More Than a Coach, a Campus Legend

The man, the myth, the legend, Coach Lucas! I recently got the opportunity of  interviewing this well rounded staff member, also known as Mr. Chandler. His Student athletes like to call him this off the field and in the classroom. As with football and baseball he is more than a coach. Today, on March 26, 2025 I got to interview our newest coach and yoga teacher Mr Lucas. On the first question I started by asking Coach Lucas who his “buddy” was at school. He followed with “Coach Pulliam for sure, we actually live across from each other. Fun fact, we carpooled everyday together during the fall. So obviously he's my guy. Also so is Darrah. That's my guy.” I also asked why he decided to teach at Minarets. He explained “Originally they just hired me, when you're a first year teacher it's hard to get a job but I ended up falling in love with it. I love how small the community is– and everyone knows everyone”. 

I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity to spend this time getting to know Mr. Lucas better. It was a pleasure seeing how he enjoys being a yoga and P.E teacher, as well as a baseball and football coach.  And, I think it's safe to say we enjoy having him here too! I am grateful for what Coach Lucas does for our school, and so are many others.
