Summer vacation is approaching! Many Minarets students have different plans for what to do with their time, such as staying at home, getting rest, working with animals, and taking care of business that was put off in lieu of schoolwork. During summer, there’s a lot of open time, and plenty of activities to be doing to fill that time to help improve yourself academically, socially, and mentally.

Students should work on having a productive summer because this fosters potential for personal growth which is an essential part of one’s happiness. Being stagnant leads to an uninteresting life, which could be fixed by taking opportunities and stepping out of your comfort zone. There are many activities you can do to have a fun, productive break. A quick list is:

Art

Music

Composition

Read

Travel

TED talks

Volunteer

Work

You can even start taking care of daily duties that you are not doing yourself yet, such as, waking yourself up, feeding and caring for your animals, and even starting to practice driving with your parents. On top of that, scheduling time is important because it will benefit you in the future, in college when you need to balance working, schoolwork, and your social life. Finding things you're interested in now will allow you to further those interests in your future, growing and advancing those skills. Its never too late to try something new even if you have had a certain passion for years.

It is your choice whether to take opportunities or not. There is always something for you and don’t go along with a passion just because you were told to. Do the activities that make you happy and enrich your life.
