Our Mustangs on the football team had a successful football season! Never before in Minarets history has the football team won five games in a season and made it to playoffs. On Nov. 8, our boys traveled out to Foothill High School in Bakersfield to compete in the first game of the playoffs. Mustangs came into this game on fire and determined to win. They had focused on film study and practiced harder than ever before.
The game started off slow with no one scoring in the first quarter. The Trojans saw an open field and finished the second quarter with a score of 14-0. Mustangs came back out putting all they had into the game, making the score even. This was due to the chemistry between players on the field, like seniors Martin Urroz and Colby Moss. Urroz explains “Colby and I have good chemistry because we both work hard on and off the field, In a game I know I could depend on Colby to run his routes correctly and with full effort, he's also an amazing player so it really stacks up.”
With only 2 minutes left in the game, Quarterback Martin Urroz' pass got intercepted, allowing the Foothill offense to score- ending the game at 28-20. Senior Luke Little explained “It was heartbreaking to see the ball intercepted because at that moment the ball landed in his hands we realized our chance progressing into playoffs had just been diminished making this our last ever game of high school football”.
Mustangs came out to play and showed outstanding effort and hustle, but a couple of bad plays ended up costing them the game. Seniors all gathered at the end of the game to give their final goodbyes to both coaches and other players, making for an emotional moment. With this, the 2019/2020 football season came to an end. Despite losing the match, the Mustangs set a record this season, and that's something to be proud of!
