O’Neals-Minarets FFA Debates the Way

On Saturday, Jan. 29, Minarets hosted the East-Fresno Madera FFA Sectional Parli Pro contest. The contest invited multiple different schools throughout the East-Fresno Madera Section to participate and both the novice and advanced teams competed in three separate rounds. The advanced team ended in __ place with Lane Sheehan in 5th high Chair, Acacia Edeluchel in 2nd High Chair and Paige Camacho as High Chairman.

Ada Miller, a sophomore on the advanced team, explained that the first competition was a fun and great experience to have. This was Miller’s first in-person competition, but she’s competed in many online events.

“It was a lot different than online. After we did our rounds we went to the gym and played cards and we all bonded and it was really fun,” said Miller when being asked about how it was different from online.

The sophomore went on to explain that she loved having the competition at her high school because she was more familiar and comfortable with not only the judges, but the environment as well.

Senior, Brayton Stenberg, is the youngest registered parliamentarian. At the Parli Pro contest, Stenberg judged a few of the teams. During the interview, the senior explained that judging is a great and enjoyable experience. He then went on to say that it’s really interesting to see how other kids and chapters run their rounds. He stated “I like to see the different styles of parliamentary procedure, the teams were great and they were interesting to see.”
