Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus, many countries have been producing less pollution. The reason countries have been producing less pollution is because most places have been on lock down, quarantined, and most people are prevented from working.
With all of this, factories are not producing much pollution in the air and there are less cars on the roads doing the same. Research results show that carbon monoxide has been reduced to about 50% compared to last year. Emissions of the planet heating gas have fallen. Traffic levels in the cities have been estimated to have dropped to 35%. There has also been a drop of CO2 which was about 5-10%. There has been a 25% drop in energy emissions in China.
While the pandemic and sheltering-in-place is not ideal, it has been having positive effects on the environment.
