This year S.L.E’s are being put on by the 2024 seniors! The goal of the Senior Legacies is to create, organize, and execute a multi-step project that has an impact on the community and demonstrates the passions and skills they have acquired in their time at school. One of our fellow classmates Aiden Feskorn is beginning in the early month of September to commemorate the month of suicide prevention and mental health awareness. September is the one month dedicated to mental health awareness, but Aiden plans to put out information on the topic every few weeks to educate fellow students and staff about our mental health. He will touch lightly on topics like bullying, self-acceptance, suicide prevention.. etc.
Aiden’s project is digital. Therefore it will be sending out emails frequently about mental health. He plans to do this until he graduates and can pass it on to a junior who is passionate about this project as well. He originally got this project from a friend named Sofia Braz who was a senior last year. He took it on as his own since the two feel similar on the subject.
“I picked this project because I believe mental health is a very serious topic that people deserve to be educated about,” he says.
There is still so much misunderstanding about mental health and it is important to be aware of our minds and take the proper steps to take care of ourselves. A goal of his is to reach as many people as he can to educate more people about mental health. This project gives students tools to get help and reach out. Aiden’s S.L.E. will continue with hopes of reaching as many people as possible. His goals are to educate, understand, and help others ultimately.
“Like I said, I believe mental health is a very serious topic that I and countless friends have struggled with, so educating as many people as I can about it is a big goal of mine.”
Aiden Festkorn is an advocate for mental health and it is evident in his project. He is well-organized and wants to make an impact on students here at Minarets High School. Aiden is taking steps to make sure his information is correct and ensuring he uses good sources with the help of his two mentors Ms. Bineet Kaur and Mrs. Lee.
