Spring Valley’s 2022-2023 School Year

Spring Valley elementary school is one of the oldest schools in the Chawanakee unified school district.


The 2022-2023 school year began on Aug. 11, 2022, students arrived in the morning to be greeted by teachers and friends that they may not have seen since the previous school year ended.


Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten Teacher Shandon Allen has been a teacher at Spring valley for the last fourteen years, and has seen many of the students who have graduated from both her class, Spring Valley, and even Minarets go off to do many great things with their lives after leaving the school.


Every year Miss Allen looks forward to meeting her students at the start of the school year and seeing their reactions to how the classroom has been decorated.


From various sports that students can participate in, field trips to go on, and other school activities, there is also something for the students who attend Spring Valley to do or be involved in beyond just their regular classes and school work.


On Oct. 6, 2023, the seventh and eighth grade students had the opportunity to participate in the annual color run. Students get colored chalk thrown at them while running or walking around Spring Valley’s Field.


On Oct. 25, 2022, teachers Miss Allen and Mrs. Frazier took their students to the pumpkin patch.


The Spring Valley Fall Festival is an annual event, which happened on Nov. 4, 2023, that welcomes students, families, and alumni of the school to attend the small carnival, from games, bounce houses. This is always a fun and memorable event.


On Dec. 5, 2022, students in grades fifth through eighth had the opportunity to witness a wildlife presentation.

Every year students also have the option to attend a MASS (Mountain Area Snow School) trip, where students are able to go to China Peak. There students will have the option of either skiing or snowboarding, and after attending a lesson the students will have the ability to go ski or snowboard on their own.


From Mar. 20, 2023 to Mar. 23, 2023, Spring Valley’s seventh and eighth grade students took a class field trip to Astro Camp where they would have had the ability to experience various different science experiments, from potato chips dipped in liquid nitrogen to seeing an actual tesla coil these students were able to experience things that they would necessarily be able to experience at school or in their everyday lives.


On Apr. 14, 2023, the middle school students at Spring Valley had the opportunity to attend the last middle school dance of the school year. This dance was one that Spring Valley hosted at Minarets in the gym with the dance's theme being spring fling.


Spring Valley held their annual spelling bee on Apr. 26, 2023, when the winner would have had the option to compete at the regional spelling bee on May 1, 2023 at Wasuma.


This year on Apr. 27, 2023 students had the chance to participate in and/or watch a wizard of oz play.


On May 5, 2023, Spring Valley’s fourth grade students went on a field trip to visit the Sugar Pine Railroad up in Fish Camp.


On May 19, 2023, both the seventh and eighth grade students went on a field trip to Great America, an amusement park in Santa Clara. While there the students would have had the opportunity to ride various roller coasters and other attractions.


Also on May 19, 2023, students in grade TK through fifth had the option to attend the Candyland Dance with their families.


As the school year is coming to an end for the students who attend Spring Valley there are still a few fun experiences and traditions left.


On May 24, 2023, Spring Valley welcomed back former students who are graduating from Minarets in a few weeks. Every year the Spring Valley alumni who attend Minarets and are graduating visit Spring Valley as a way to say goodbye. This year the 19 students who graduated from Spring Valley in 2019 who currently attend Minarets returned to Spring Valley dressed in their caps and gowns and said goodbye to their former teachers, as they are preparing for their graduation from High School and are moving on to the next phase of their lives.


On June 3, 2023, the parents and families of spring valley students will have the ability to attend the inaugural garden luau, where they can contribute to the school’s future.


On June 6, 2023, there will be a breakfast for the eighth graders hosted by parents.


On June 7, 2023, both the kindergarten and eighth grade classes will graduate and move on to the next part of their education, with the kindergarteners becoming first graders at Spring Valley and the eighth graders who will be beginning their freshman year of high school in the fall and joining the class of 2027.


The last day of Spring Valley’s 2022-2023 school year will be June 9, 2023, where students will say goodbye to their friends and teachers and enjoy the last day of school before summer begins, and they come back in August to do it all over again.
