Students Take Control Of The Minarets Homecoming Dance

Students Take Over the Minarets Homecoming Dance with Leadership and awesome dance moves!

Last Saturday was the annual homecoming dance for Minarets High School, located in O’Neals, California. Showing a perfect example of community with student involvement in extracurricular activities, the students took charge of the dance. Leadership member Aubre Matier said, “We put a lot of work into the little things for the dance. We did the entire balloon arch, as well as filled individual mason jars with sand to add to the aesthetic of the dance. My favorite part was the music and being able to have a bit of my own music taste there." Leadership and staff created a magical night with beautiful décor and great music. Students showing out in their semi-formal attire, following the proper dress code, made the night a breeze for staff. When asked about homecoming, students said they loved Mrs. Corippo’s classic approach to the event. We will all be anticipating her next move as she continues to develop Minarets culture. The Mustang community now asks, “What's next for Minarets?”

Meanwhile, on the field, the Minarets football team is changing the culture, practice by practice. Coach Pulliam, now in his third year, is making a huge impact not only on the players but on the thriving and winning football program. With their recent win in this week's homecoming game against Riverdale, with a score of 35-13, they proved the naysayers wrong, continuing their winning season. Captain and running back Jabari Gomez said, “We have a big chance of keeping our winning streak, and we all are on the road to get a championship. All it takes is the work we put in every day, and I’m pretty positive our outcome will be good. We have a game next Friday against Caruthers. JV starts at 5, and varsity is at 7:30. We would absolutely love to see the fans out there supporting us!” The spotlight continues to shine on Minarets, as its sports, educational, and FFA programs establish their place in the Central Valley. The football team was able to attend the annual homecoming dance, with the dance, for the first time in Minarets history, being on a Saturday!

The Minarets Homecoming Dance and the triumphant performance of the Mustang football team created an unforgettable weekend for the O’Neals community. Leading up to it, students and staff celebrated homecoming week by dressing up in fun, goofy outfits for the designated dress-up days and celebrating Mustang pride! The dress-up days included Dress as Your Type, BBQ Dad vs. Soccer Mom, Rhyme Without Reason, Bikers vs. Surfers, and Spirit Day! Students are buzzing with excitement for upcoming school events and to see what's to come. This homecoming week not only highlighted school spirit but also fostered a sense of pride and anticipation for the future of the Mustangs. Fellow student Randall McGrew said, "I am excited for my senior year. Prom and homecoming are going to be really fun! It really feels like there is a different atmosphere at Minarets. All the students seem determined towards their goals and are willing to put the work in to get there. I'm excited to see where Minarets goes in terms of education and academics."

Overall, the Mustangs had a memorable homecoming week, celebrating their growing school pride and looking forward to a bright future.
