Minarets welcomed a new member to the teaching staff with Michael Garza as the new education specialist. In this role, Garza helps students in multiple areas when they need assistance or extra support in their classes. He also provides a place where they can say what’s on their mind and have a conversation, which is more important now than ever before.

Garza explained that he became a teacher after he was inspired after working as a care taker in a kindergarten classroom. He said, "At first it was tough and the kids never really seem to appreciate you but, when you come in the next day the kindergarteners begin to look forward to seeing you everyday and there is reward in it. When you see that you are making a difference and helping, it makes it worth while." From there, he worked tirelessly to get his credential so he could provide help to students with specific needs and those who just need a little help.

Previously, Garza has taught at Edison High School and Washington High Schools, but he was drawn to Minarets with its beautiful campus and the friendly atmosphere. Even though he hasn't had the opportunity to experience the true spirit of Minarets on campus with students, he is actively involved in his classes and is eager to start coaching baseball alongside Coach Jesse Darrah. He also appreciates the support of his fellow Minarets teachers who have really come together as a community. He explained, "the teachers really seem to want to be here and enjoy what they do."

As a teacher he is honored to be apart of the transition all students make through life in high school from freshmen to seniors and he hopes that all will see him as a valuable resource.

Minarets is excited to have Mr. Garza join the Mustang family!
