As Volleyball season came to an end for the Minarets Varsity Team on Nov. 7, it was not only the last time the team would play together, but the last time coaches Jessica and Jaethan Chacon would coach the Minarets Varsity Volleyball Team.

Jessica Chacon has been the Varsity Head Coach for the past six years at Minarets. In an interview she shared, “Volleyball and coaching has changed my life. It’s how I met my husband. This job has been incredible.” The Chacon’s have made the tough decision of leaving, in hopes of starting a family of their own. Jessica Chacon will still be a counselor at Minarets and she says both she and Coach Jay will come to the games and support the girls who will be part of the program in the coming years.

We had the opportunity to talk to “Team Catorce”, which means 14 in Spanish, representing the 14 varsity players and a nickname given to the team early on by Coach Jessica. Many of the girls were sad that the coaches were leaving but could understand why they were making the decision to go. As Senior Synovia Wold explained, “She will never really leave Minarets. Obviously, she’s still working here, and she’s left a lasting legacy in the Minarets Volleyball program.”

For those players who have had the opportunity to play under her, it is going to be a tough transition. However, the way that the Chacon Coaches have shaped the program, the girls agree that culture will not change. When the players were asked to share one final thought with their coaches, the majority said the same. 'Thank You. I love you, and the silly, inside saying, "get the toady Jesser"!'

The entire Minarets Volleyball program and parents, wish the Chacon Family the best of luck in the next chapter of their lives. Their love and excitement for the game, the commitment to the program and players has been appreciated and will not be forgotten.
