With the new 2021 school year beginning, Minarets High School is happy to welcome new teachers and staff to their work family. One of these new members of staff in particular is the new registrar and school secretary, Kevin West. West’s job is to make sure that all students’ documents are organized, so they can be transferred either in or out of the school district. He also helps with administration work in the office from time to time. However, West is no stranger to the school as he is married to drama teacher Kayla West.

The story of how West came to Minarets involves a path that led him in a full circle. He started off at King’s University where he earned his degree in historical theology. After leaving college, he wanted to take his learning and teach others. It was at that moment he wanted to become part of an educational system. From there, his first job was at an adult education center as a registrar. However, one day, due to some changes happening at the education center, he had to be let go. This led to him becoming the manager of the hunting and fishing center at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Although it wasn’t his first choice of a temporary job, he did enjoy hunting and fishing, so he made the most of it. After working in retail for a while, he got the opportunity in his current position. In the end, his path may have been bumpy, but he ended up getting the job that he always wanted.

After his first few weeks on the job, West explains he has liked the welcoming environment from both the staff and students. With the registrar position, West has many goals for this year.

“I want to excel in the position, face the challenges that this year might bring, and have the ability to adapt. I also want to be supportive of current students, alumni, and the greater Minaret’s community,” he explained.

In the end, West is ready to adapt to any situation that may come, and he is ready to help the school in any way he can.
