The soccer girls’ team spirit and drive to win are something our school demonstrates more than most. The girls faced tough challenges but still came out on top, winning their first game against Mendota with a 1-0 score. The team showed excellent cooperation, with some great passes to each other and truly showcasing their skills. Jadyn Benak even said, “We've been on that grind; we've been up there.”

But the girls didn’t stop at their victory over Mendota. They followed it up with an impressive 2-0 win against Summit, continuing to demonstrate their skill and determination on the field. With two consecutive wins under their belt, the team proved the power of their hard work and training, leaving no doubt that they’re a force to be reckoned with. Their seamless teamwork and unwavering focus were evident throughout both matches, solidifying their reputation as a team truly firing on all cylinders.

After those victories, they faced Sanomeria and ended the game with a 0-3 loss. Even though they didn’t come out on top this time, the girls remained proud of their efforts and continued to give their best. Jadyn Benak summed it up perfectly: “It's not about the reward, it’s how we know we did good.”

The tournament was a division 1 tournament, meaning that the best of the best schools competed in this tournament. The Mustang Girls are division 6, so it was very impressive that the girls were able to get the placing that they did in this tournament. For them, league play will begin January 14th where they will face off against Fowler at an away game. Until then they will match up with Firebaugh for a home game. Firebaugh is starting off the season rough with a 0-6-2 record. The Mustangs should be able to pull it off if they play similar to how they did at last week’s tournament.
