Minarets Varsity Baseball has been on fire, having yet to lose a league game this season with 9 wins, 0 losses so far. The team is looking for their next win on May 21 against Orange Cove High School in Orange Cove, CA. All the athletes believe that without head coach Jesse Darrah and the assistant coaches putting in their time, dedication, and experience, the team would not have been able to make it this far.
This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented its fair share of challenges on the coaches, staff, and players, but with enough faith and perseverance, the team has maintained its enthusiasm and is more than ready to play. Junior Trever Jobinger, third baseman for, says, ”I feel like the team has been doing well this year. I think there are some areas that we can improve on, but nothing too serious. We have a young team that will be very good in the next few years. We have good talent throughout the lineup, and I’m excited to see how far our team can go this year.”
Jobinger’s comments mirror the optimism of the rest of the team and their growing confidence in their ability to continue their winning streak. Minarets have had some tough scrimmage games this year, namely against San Joaquin Memorial High School and Clovis West High School. Although they lost those scrimmages, the team still pulled off several impressive plays and proved they can hold their own against Division I teams. The scrimmages also allowed them to focus on areas that needed improving before regular league play.
Since the Division I games, the varsity team has gone undefeated in their league, with only four regular-season games remaining. Though the season is set to end on June 1, the team is on track to reach the playoffs and potentially the championship game.
The team encourages fans to check their schedule on Facebook and Instagram at Minarets Baseball and attend a game.
