The movie under the stars was an SLE event hosted by Lyah Aqa and Nina Clay, both seniors at Minarets. The movie that was shown was a relatively new movie called Luca, a beautiful coming-of-age movie about a young boy having an adventurous summer. They served both food and drinks for a low price, and all proceeds went to an organization that sent essentials to refugee families in Afghanistan.
The production of this SLE started in February of 2022 so it was quite last minute but they still did an amazing job. The major reason why Luca was chosen over some other great movies is that this was one of their mutual favorite movies.
While the choice of the movie was quick and painless, the making of this event was a pain in itself. While the process of meeting the tight deadline was truly a hassle, what was even more worrisome is the fact that they can't predict the weather.
“The process was very stressful at first because we had set up the screen and speakers outside on the field and it started to rain, so we had to move everything to the media lounge. Everyone still showed up though and we were able to raise $573 to donate,” said Aqa.
Even though an unexpected disaster happened to them they quickly found a way to get around that problem by quickly gathering the equipment and went inside the media lounge. Even with this problem occurring, they still had everyone show up and were able to raise $573 dollars to donate to refugee families in Afghanistan.
