An Ecstatic Game of Bobbing for Apples Wednesday’s homecoming game

By Anastasia Salazar

Let the homecoming festivities begin! It’s that time of year again, where every day there was a new and improved, spooky game that took place at lunch to get Minarets students hyped for the upcoming homecoming dance and game. Wednesday, October 11, we had a thrilling and competitive game of bobbing for apples, where one person from each grade was selected to participate and hopefully lead their grade level to victory!

Each competitor had to place their hands behind their back and dive their face into the chilling bucket of water, biting each apple with their teeth, and throwing them out. Strategies were put into play by each player. Emma Suehiro, who was competing for the Junior team explained, “A strategy I used was to bite the apples by the stem. It took a little patience but it made it so much easier, and I could move quicker without sticking my whole head in the water.”

The cheers became louder as the game intensified. Counselor Mrs. Camacho stood on the sidelines cheering on seniors, along with Keely Ortiz. When asking Keely what she thought about the game, she stated, “I thought the game was super entertaining to watch, it was engaging and I had a good time.”

The bystanders became ecstatic as the game was soon reaching its ending point. It was neck to neck as each participant was down to their last apple. They each used all of their power to grab the last apple, but freshman, Balin Bethel took the win. As the game came to an end, Senior Sam Martin was able to state the challenges he faced when playing the game. He said, “The most challenging thing was not being able to use my hands because my mouth started to hurt when I would reach for the apples.”

In the end, Balin Bethel was able to achieve victory by not backing down and going big, going pro, and going now! Balin was asked, “What made you want to participate?” He explained, “My friends encouraged me to participate, and it was relatively easy.”

Emma Suehiro was able to explain her thoughts about the Freshman winning the game. She stated, “I think I could have won if I went all in, but I think the freshman deserved the win because he stuck his whole head in the water.” Her selflessness overpowers her competitiveness.

The intensity of this game was immaculate and everyone had an excellent time. This haunted theme game was one for the books and hopefully, Minaret's leadership will circle back to it in the future.
