FFA is here to prove that recognition is year-round! On Nov. 15, FFA hosted their annual Fall Banquet to do just that. Members were given the opportunity to earn FFA credit for attending and donating to the banquet. All the donations were combined to create a pasta dinner for all attendees. Near the entrance was a decorated tree, where guests could adopt a family, and help support those in need.
This was the second year 7th and 8th grade members were given Discovery FFA degrees. Freshman members were awarded for their early accomplishments with Greenhand Degrees. Sophomores were awarded for their continued efforts with their Chapter Degrees,
the highest degree a chapter can bestow upon its members. Next year,
these sophomore’s can earn their state degrees, to show their dedication above the chapter level. Chapter degree recipient Shelby Graff described her SAE- or Supervised Agricultural
Experience- explaining that she is comparing the short-term memories of the genders, and trying to find out whether there is a connection. She then discussed how far she’s come in the past year. “FFA wasn’t really a thing at my old school, and now it’s the biggest thing, and I’m so glad to have this chance to be so involved.”
The highlight of the night was a Creed Speaking competition where freshman members recited the six-paragraph FFA creed written by E.M Tiffany to the 222 banquet attendees. The members recited the Creed and then were asked several questions about their connection to the words in the creed. In third place was Jayden Smeltzer, followed by Paige Camacho in second, and Adrian Hall in first. “I want to join Parliamentary Procedure, and continue pursuing creed,” she said in an interview shortly after winning the competition. “I’m going to keep going to more creed competitions, and hopefully do well there.”
The night successfully recognized students for their hard work and dedication to the FFA. These students put in a lot of time into their SAE projects and this recognition will energize students moving into the upcoming fall CDE season. The Spring Banquet will be held on May 26 so be sure to mark your calendars so that you can earn credit in your AG classes and support the FFA.
