Happy Tuesday Tradition: FCA Meetings

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

Minarets Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), is a Christian club that meets every Tuesday at lunch. This past week two of the leaders, junio Justin Bowe and senior Cyrus Christensen gave a devotion and talked about not giving up and moving forward.

They shared personal stories about adversities they have faced and how they leaned on God to persevere. In an Interview with Junior FCA Leader Justin Bowe he said, “In this point of the year students lose enthusiasm and the message was really supposed to be kind of a call to action.” The huddle was a lot of fun there was snacks and everyone played a game of extreme rock, paper, scissors. Extreme rock, paper, scissors is like regular rock paper scissors but when you lose, you cheer on the person who beat you. The game will end with two players each with their own cheering crowd behind them.

Minarets FCA has been a club for nine years. Currently the club meets at lunch in the Media Lounge, and the leadership team and club provides drinks and pizza. Over the course of the year student leaders share testimonies, many Christian leaders from across the central valley come to speak, and students are encouraged to engage during huddle. Senior Mackenzie Camacho has been attending FCA since she was a freshman at Minarets. She said, “My favorite thing about FCA is definitely the personal stories I get to hear about people’s lives although most have a tragic part they all end beautifully, really getting to hear how others have been impacted by God.”

The FCA is a national organization and it's built on the four main values, integrity, teamwork, service and excellence. Minarets accounts for one of 96 Central Valley huddles, including Spring Valley Elementary right down the road from MHS. The huddles at Minarets are advised by Pastor John Lorenzana and the Director of Media is Pat Lynch.

All students are welcome at FCA and Bowe said that is a misconception he hears a lot. Students from all walks of life are encouraged to attend the weekly huddles Tuesday at lunch.
