Minarets is a beautiful school, but we could make a little bit of improvements to make it better. For this article, we went around the school interviewing people and asking their opinions on what we can change about the school so it can benefit us.
The Minarets football field is nice but there are some improvements that could make it even nicer. There was one thing that Marie Von Wagner (Ms. Von Wagner) suggested we could change about the football field. She mentions that when you take a first glance at the field, there are a lot of patches of dirt so maybe we could plant some flowers, add more grass, and more landscaping. Mr. Land also says that our stadium could use way more improvement and more money can be put into it. These changes would definitely help us so that when other teams come to play at our school, they can see that our campus is well taken care of. William Gearheart (Mr. Gearheart) had a good suggestion of adding a boy’s volleyball. This is a great idea because our girl’s volleyball team is very strong and it gives us better selections of sports.
There were some recommendations for new buildings and classrooms to be built. There was a very good suggestion that Brandon Petrie (Mr. Petrie) told us which was to build a new performing arts center so students can have a place to practice without causing too much noise for other classes. This would be greatly beneficial to Minarets because we have many students that have so much talent in performing arts, and if we were to build this we would be able to possibly expand our group. If this is possible to do we hope to build it as soon as we can.
Another suggestion we got about different buildings was from Juliana Sani (Ms. Sani), she suggested we have different buildings for the different subjects. For example, Ag Bio and Chemistry could have their own building since they need more space for these subjects since all the teachers are crammed into one building. Ms. Sani’s room is also a makeshift classroom which makes it hard for other kids to pay attention in class since the wall is thin and you can hear other students from the other class.
Another idea made by a student named Ben Hammond suggested that we add showers to the school. This could help keep the students clean and not cause a smell in classes. A student named Kloe Ramos also suggested that staff refill the hygiene products (e.g.: paper towels, pads, seat covers, etc.) in both bathrooms since they are usually empty.
A great recommendation we got was from Molly Alsup who said we need to change the Wednesday schedule back to last year's schedule. The old Wednesday schedule, school started at 9:45 which was good for students since they were able to get more sleep and come to school awake. This helped students focus more and be more involved in school. Zaphara Byron-Hamilton also recommended that we change the bell songs weekly since kids don’t want to listen to the same songs every week. We can send out a Google document in which students submit around five school-appropriate songs so we can have a variety of songs throughout the school year. One great suggestion by Tilly Anderson was to make the lunches better, for example,by adding a salad bar for students who want a healthier food option. There was an idea from an anonymous person who said we should build some shaded tables on the upper grass area for the seniors so they can have their own space and so the blue tables aren’t so crowded.
Although Minarets High School is a very beautiful school, many improvements could be made so it could shine more and make our community even better than it already is.
