Lunch Games

By: Caleb Herbert

Homecoming week was filled with excitement, school spirit, and cheer. This was perhaps on display most in the form of our raucous, rambunctious, and riveting lunch games. These lunch games were a joy to all who attended and participated, and were in many students’ opinion the highlight of the week.

Tuesday’s lunch game, the infamous three-legged race, was a thrilling and dramatic event of epic proportions. Upon looking out on the lawn by the blue tables on that fateful Tuesday afternoon, one notices a track of sorts created by orange and yellow cones. Tombstones were scattered around the track, as an obstacle for the racers to overcome. The leadership group selected two willing and excited members of each class to participate in the game. Their legs were taped together, and the race was on.

The goal of the race was to get to the end of the track and back without breaking the tape holding you and your partner together. It was also imperative that the racers avoided the tombstones and other various hazards placed on the course. Minarets Showband played as the race began, and the tandem speedsters were off. After an intense contest of skill and determination, the seniors were victorious, represented by Josh Wolford and Kobe King.

When asked why he chose to participate, Joshua said “I chose to participate because I knew that me and my partner Kobe were the best of the bunch. I also wanted to show my school spirit”. He also relayed that the game was “...extremely fun and I would 100% do it again” and that he felt “...very happy about my victory”.

Friday’s game was the great finale of the week. It was a Halloween-themed trivia contest with a catch: wrong answers resulted in someone getting pied. A student and teacher pair from each class teamed up for this game, the students racing to answer the questions. Wrong answers resulted in Ms. Kaur (freshman), Ms. Alkire (sophomores), Mr. Garza (juniors), and Ms. Von Wagner (seniors), getting pied.

Ms. Von Wagner ended up being the first one pied, followed by Mr. Garza, Ms. Alkire, and Ms. Kaur respectively. Having collected the most points from correct answers, the juniors emerged victorious in the end, despite Mr. Garza embarrassingly being pied a remarkable six times. Rumor has it he was coughing up whipped cream for the next week.
