Minaret's first cross-country race was on August 26th, at The Dennis DeWitt Invitational at Madera South High School. It was a two-mile race. Seventeen high school and ten middle school teams competed. Minarets runners ran a good race, all finishing under 18 minutes. Caitlyn Videgain, a Senior at MHS, had the Mustang’s top time with 14:10. The coach, Ms. Von Wagner says, “I'm very proud of our athletes that showed up and gave their best efforts despite temperatures in the mid-90s. I am very optimistic about the season ahead.”
There are a total of 11 cross country students. During an interview with some of the Minarets cross country members, they talked about their team's environment and spirit, saying that they were all nice, healthy, safe to be around, and had some great encouragement. Many of the team members see cross country as an excellent opportunity to stay in good shape for soccer season, as well as to build better stamina and get outside more often. When asked what they were excited about and looking forward to, Savvanna, a
junior, says, “I'm excited to run with my teammates and improve myself physically and mentally.” The Minarets cross country team is going through till November, they have seven meets left. The next meet is on Sep 9, in Kingsburg. Go Mustangs!
