Thirteen members of Minarets FFA left on Oct. 30, 2019 for the annual FFA National Convention in Indianapolis, an event which aims to enrich the experience of members of the FFA and allow them to share their accomplishments. Of the thirteen attending, eight of them will be competing in various events.
The majority of the competing students will be participating in the Parliamentary Procedure Leadership Development Event. This event aims to test them on their skill at conducting an efficient and orderly parliamentary procedure. They will be judged on their ability to give logical, realistic debate, and their knowledge of parliamentary law. The competitors from Minarets will be sophomore Brayton Stenburg, Garret Alford, Micheal Rezendes, Dilan Basila, Katie Linderholm, and Natalie Anselmo, all of whom except for Stenburg have graduated prior to attending the convention.
Competing individually are senior Madeline Wristen and Mackenzie Camacho. Wristen is competing in National FFA Talent, an event where FFA members demonstrate their skills that don’t pertain to the organization’s agricultural focus, with the winner earning a cash prize. Wristen’s singing abilities have brought her to the top 40 as of this writing. Mackenzie Camacho is a national finalist for both the Proficiency Awards and Agriscience Fair, for her project regarding plant systems. She will be competing against 12 other finalists for the national title.Â
In addition to the competitions, those on the trip will go to see various sights around the event, such as the Louisville Slugger Museum and the Indianapolis Zoo.
Good luck to everyone competing!
