Minarets recently purchased dozens of new desks for each of the classrooms in the 600 building with the intention to help students and teachers socially distance themselves from each other. With the possibility of returning to school in a hybrid model on Mar. 23, these desks will be very helpful in maintaining a safe learning environment for students and staff.
The new desks also come with some interesting new features. Physics teacher Jaethan Chacon explains, “There are two different types of desks. They both do the same thing, which is that the desks roll around and can be moved up and down to adjust to the correct height for tall or short people.”
With these features, the desks will allow more students into each classroom at a time while still maintaining six-foot gaps as compared to the traditional tables the school once had. These new desks are also easier to move and adjust as needed while also allowing the students to sit or stand during class.
Purchasing new desks is just one of several measures being taken to prepare for the possibility of reopening the school for in-person learning. With county cases trending downwards, these desks may very well be used soon.
