Everyone has an activity that helps ease the stress of their everyday lives, whether it be reading or hiking or simply watching TV. For senior Hayden Livingston, it is photography, but it's quickly becoming more than just a hobby.
Livingston discovered his passion for photography when he was only five years old, saying, "I have always been interested in cameras, even at the age of five when I was able to use my parents 'point-and-shoot' Canon". At thirteen years old Livingston began to dive deeper into his passion for photography when he was given his first photo capable device, an iPod touch. Although nobody in his life initially pitched the idea of taking photos, his father's photographs were a huge inspiration to kickstart his hobby. For the past five years, Livingston has been taking photographs after finding a fascination in "preserving frames of the world through my own eyes".
Since entering high school, Livingston has become an active participant in the Minarets Media program, both as a student in the Advanced Media class and a competitor in the Slickrock Film Festival, a competition for student-produced media. While his short films have been entered in festivals like these, Livingston has yet to submit his personal photography to any type of competition or art gallery; however, he plans to do so when the opportunity comes. He believes that photography could be a potential career path for him, although he plans on going into the videography side of the media world first.
