Spirit, Style, and Spotlight: Mustangs Own HOCO Week

The Minarets Mustangs kicked off Homecoming Week with a burst of school spirit, creativity, and nostalgia. From cowboy boots to microwaves, the campus transformed each day with a different theme inspired by classic Disney shows and student traditions.

The week began with a showdown between the glitz of popstars and the grit of the country lifestyle. Students strutted in cowboy hats, boots, and flannels, while others sparkled in colorful wigs, sequins, and even carried microphones. The day brought back childhood memories of Hannah Montana and early 2000s icons like Britney Spears.

On Tuesday, Mustangs showed their resourcefulness with “Anything But a Backpack Day.” Students swapped out their usual book bags for coolers, wagons, trash cans, and even a couple microwaves. The creativity turned heads and kept the halls buzzing with laughter.

Midweek, the school split between team spirit and center stage flair. Jerseys from football, baseball, and soccer filled the quad while drama lovers channeled their inner stars with costumes from plays and movies. Characters like Captain Hook and Spider-Man brought the drama side to life, balancing the sporty energy of the day.

On Thursday, the spirit of Disney Channel’s twin sisters came to life. Mustangs matched with their “twin” in outfits ranging from jerseys to elaborate costumes. Students also got creative with celebrity lookalikes, and pairings like Bruno Mars and the Lorax made appearances. Mr. Wolf joined the fun as Tweedledee and Mr. Sconce as Tweedledum, explaining, “I wanted to wear a propeller on my head, and this was the best way.” Another student, Gabriel Serna, and his twin Lila Greer noted, “The Lorax has amazing environmental goals. This is an important time to speak up for the environment.” Their pairing showed that you can raise awareness about important issues while still having fun with the themes.

The week concluded with Mustang pride shining bright. Students and staff showed their Mustang Pride by dressing up in all white tops, skirts, pants, hats, and face paint to show unity and support for the big Homecoming game against the Caruthers Blue Raiders. Energy surged across campus as the community rallied together.

From start to finish, Homecoming Dress-Up Week brought out the best of Mustang creativity, spirit, and unity with themed outfits and a buzzing atmosphere. Minarets students proved once again that when it comes to school pride, they got the best of both worlds.
