The Art of Our Lives: Sierra Art Trails

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

by Kathryn Odgers

Students get the opportunity to submit their art, photography, and more to the annual Sierra Art Trails event to be placed on display. This year, the 17th Anniversary of the Sierra Art Trails takes place at Oakhurst's Gallery Row, from Oct. 4 to Oct. 6. The event gives an opportunity for artists to be featured and art admirers to explore different fine arts and crafts, along with purchasing these pieces.

"It's an art show that occurs all over the mountain areas and local artists show at their home studios or local businesses. People who are interested drive around and visit these places to see the art they want to look at," art teacher Jill Gamble said. There are over 90 local artists, such as Ann Hart and Vicki D. Thomas, who participate in the event annually and showcase their art at Oakhurst, Fresno, and other locations throughout the Sierra Foothills. The Sierra Art Trails attract many visitors annually who visit these galleries and studios to enjoy and explore a wide variety of artistic mediums and styles directly from local artists.

Minarets has participated in the Sierra Art Trails for the past three years and has had numerous submissions at the gallery. Students submit two-dimensional pieces to art teacher Gamble where she then puts them on display for the show, which gives student's the opportunity to have their pieces sold. "You can sell your art and put a price on your piece, but there are also opportunities to get your art recognized as well," she mentioned.

The Sierra Art Trails is a great opportunity for students to submit their art and also see other pieces by local artists on display.
