On the night of November 1st, 2024, the Minarets Mustang seniors made a lasting
impression on the history of Minarets football. As the Minarets seniors took the field for the last time against their rivals they were reminded of the hard work they’ve put in over the years and the bittersweet memories with their teammates. Although there were high expectations and lots of pressure for the Minarets offense, they delivered! When asked for his thoughts on the game,Mustang fan Lynell Taylor exclaimed: “I'm really impressed with the offense I'm seeing, the Mustangs are killing it right now, for sure.” And he wasn’t the only one. As Minarets fans watched in awe, the team excelled in very impressive forward passes and strategic running plays, leaving the Yosemite Badgers in the dust.
What is the significance of this game you may ask? Along with the long-standing rivalry
between Minarets Mustangs and Yosemite Badgers, this game marked the end of the regular football season for the team and most importantly the seniors. That’s right, this rivalry game took place on our Mustang’s senior night. When asked about the significance of this game, varsity head Coach Shanon Pulliam replied, “What a tremendous way to end the regular season, especially against our rival opponent. Our kids played great, played hard, and heading into the playoffs we have a ton of momentum. We look forward to a great week of practice for a championship run! Go Mustangs!” Coach Shannon Pulliam has a lot of confidence in this team and as we know and have seen, they can deliver! As a result of the victory over the Badgers, the Mustangs take second place in the Central Section Division VI and first in the Central Section playoffs division. As the team moves into playoffs the pressure is on, and anticipation is building.
The rivalry between these two teams has had its ups and downs but ultimately reveals
the school spirit between the students. The two schools collaborated in making a trophy for the winners of this game, and Minarets is proud to receive it this year. Although the audience was very impressed with the performance of the team at this game, some students were disappointed it wasn't a complete blowout. One fan stated, “It’s a tragedy that they scored one touchdown, but 49-6 really makes a statement about who we are.” Who are we? We are the Minarets Mustangs. What do we come to do? We come to win. Go support your Mustangs as we gallop into the playoffs.
