With ASB and the Minarets leadership team’s plans of in-person events for 2021 now falling to the wayside as the school enters another semester of distance learning, many have been left wondering what the team has planned for the Mustang community.
As the calendar flips to February, one event already set in motion is Wild Wednesday, a name for lunchtime grade-based competitive events that will be held every Wednesday via Webex links sent out through email and social media.
Wild Wednesdays are meant to be competitive and fun tournaments held across different platforms like Kahoot and Gimkit along with recent discussion of incorporating video games after the success of the FFA’s “Among Us” night. The participants of these leadership events can win gift cards as well as points for their grade level; the leadership team is bringing back the famous class intros and the year-long grade-level point systems they previously had for in-person rally games.
The first Wild Wednesday was held earlier this week for the freshmen class, with thirty-seven students turning out to play Disney Kahoot. In the end, freshman Thomas Grisham won first place while freshman Rebecca Kinnunen placed second.
The second item on Leadership's agenda set to begin sometime in the next month is Student Highlights, smaller infographics and videos meant to highlight students recommended by the community who deserve recognition for a talent, skill, or act of kindness. These will be published on social media and promoted through email.
Sophomore and leadership student Jonah Ewalt explained, "Mustang spotlights is this creative idea by the Minarets leadership team to find students at Minarets that have a unique, talented skill but not many people know about their skill. This is gonna be fantastic because people who may feel afraid to show what they can do can have a chance and boost of confidence when shown that people care!"
As for the latter half of the semester, the leadership team has not announced anything new as the pandemic continues to be unpredictable. Updates will continue to be sent out when new plans are set.
