Why Minarets?

By: Caleb Herbert and Grace Noonkester

Nestled in the majestic mountains of O’Neals, California, Minarets High School is a superb educational experience that is rivaled by few and loved by many. Since its founding in 2008, Minarets has provided students in the O’Neals and surrounding area with a quality education and safe environment. This provision sets our students up for success and bestows the opportunity upon them to explore their passions. Minarets has the capability to fulfill the learning needs and desires of any student and is therefore a more than adequate place for one to further their education.

Minarets High School is unique in many different ways, such as its plethora of dual enrollment and honors course opportunities. Students who attend Minarets have the opportunity to enroll in courses at a collegiate level through Clovis Community College. These courses are available to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors and lead to college credit. This opportunity is uncommon at the schools in our area, and Minarets is very proud to offer these courses for students to partake in to enhance their academic experience and success.

The campus life at Minarets is unparalleled. There are few places where one can find a more welcoming and endearing student body. Bullying is unacceptable and non-existent at Minarets, and one would be hard-pressed to find an unkind, rude, or antagonistic student within the confines of our school. Our school is also set in a gorgeous area of the picturesque Sierra Nevada mountains and is one of the cleanest in our district. Minarets takes great pride in having a gorgeous campus, welcoming student body, and an overall wonderful campus experience matched by few.

Minarets also offers a great deal of sports opportunities for interested students. Our school offers sports such as football, baseball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, girls volleyball, wrestling, cross country, and track. Our girl's volleyball team in particular has been consistently successful over the last few years. Minarets sports have a legacy of excellence and are available to all interested and eligible students.

After being a wonderful substitute for our school last year, Mr. Davis joined our group of social studies teachers and has enjoyed every second of it. His fellow staff members have helped him find a place in our community along with the students he interacts with on a day-to-day basis. Mr. Davis first heard about Minarets from Dr. Ching when he was our principal and Mr. Davis decided to enroll his child here. Our project-based learning intrigued Mr. Davis to join our school as well and it was our strong community and countless kind people that let him know he made the right decision. While his time with us has just started, his favorite memories from this year are all the interactions he’s had with his students. He loves the engagement that occurs even outside of class. Mr. Davis also enjoys attending sporting events of all kinds and is a great cheerleader for our school. Ms. Corripo and the office staff are just a few names that Mr. Davis brought up when asked why he has stayed here because of how helpful they all are. The aforementioned social studies teachers who include Mr. Kelly, Mr. Gearhart, and Mr. Palazzo also made him feel more comfortable in our school. Mr. Davis is very grateful for all the kindness our school has shown him and we hope that affection never waivers because he is a wonderful and admirable teacher to have.

Abby Buttgereit is a senior here at Minarets and has been here since her sophomore year in 2021. She’s been involved with things like leadership and volleyball in the past and is now part of CSF. Abby enjoys many aspects of our school such as the Lip Dub and school dances. Her favorite memory so far is Prom 2023 because she had so much fun with her friends that night. Thanks to one of her childhood babysitters, she heard very good things about Minarets, and our project-based learning was what sealed the deal. Because of how our work is structured, Abby has been taught how to present professionally and many other important life skills. She loves how welcoming our school is and is glad to be a part of it. Her presence in our school does not go unnoticed and she definitely contributes to our strong community.

Minarets High School is an academic experience that is unique in the best of ways. Students at Minarets are kind and welcoming, and excel both in the classroom and on the field because of our vast and beneficial sports and academic opportunities. One should without a doubt consider attending Minarets High School, as there’s nothing in the valley quite like it.
