Would You Rather Plan or Record School Events?

Minarets High School is home to a very diverse community when it comes to career opportunities. From smarts to arts, there is sure to be a class for any kind of person. With many options to choose from, there will always be the question of, "which one should I do ?", or “what would be the best class for me?". Those are exactly the questions that this article plans to help solve. Welcome to “Would You Rather…", a series that will take two specific paths and take a deep dive look into the kinds of classes, or activities, there are. This article, in particular, will be asking the question “Would You Rather Plan or Record School Events?” However, what does it mean to either plan or record school events?

Starting off with planning school events, have you ever wanted to see the inner workings of a school event? Did you ever want to be a part of the group of people that makes the magic happen behind the scenes? Then you have to check out Leadership. Leadership is the club/class that is responsible for planning all the fun activities and events that happen throughout the school year. This club/class is managed by media teacher Juan Ortiz, who is also the Esports coach. When in the club/class, students are at work planning fun activities for the school. From dances to dress up days, these students are behind all the magic that happens at school events.

Senior Bella Velazquez says, "I do enjoy leadership because it is very fun, yet very tiring."

However, besides event planning, Leadership is also known for its community inside and outside the classroom. Not only can people make strong friendships with their fellow students inside the classroom, but Leadership makes people get outside the classroom and interact with everyone else here at the school. This can lead to meeting new people outside the class as well.

The next path we will look at is recording school events. Have you ever wanted to know how school events are recorded? Ever wanted to be the one behind the camera, capturing all the magic as it unfolds? Then you've got to see Digital Journalism. Digital Journalism is the club/class responsible for both recording and keeping people updated on school events. This club/class is run by Minarets Cs teacher Katie Morgan and English teacher Rachael Stubbert. In the class/club, students will be a part of the Minarets Press, which is Minarets' news broadcasting system. Students will keep up to date on stuff that is happening around the school and also take part in writing articles, creating news packages, and even podcasts about school events.

However, school events are not the only thing people can find and/or make while a part of the Minarets Press. There is also an abundance of media you can both make and find. Students have made fun arts and crafts tutorials, cooking/baking tutorials, and even comic books.

Senior Ryan Abner, states, ”I like it because this class involves technical skills.”

Another thing that students can find in Digital Journalism is friendship. This is because, just like Leadership, Digital Journalism makes students get out there and interact with others both inside and outside the classroom.

So which club/class is more popular with the Minarets population, Leadership or Journalism? After letting students vote on the official Minarets Press Instagram page, the results are in: it seems that Leadership is the prizewinner this time. However, despite what the polls say, both clubs/classes are amazing and have a special place at the school.

Thanks so much for everyone that took part in the voting, you are the real writers that made this article possible. If anyone has any suggestions on what should be the next question for “Would You Rather…”, please leave a comment on the article page.
